Low pressure closing test 6.4.1 The low pressure closing test shall be conducted when the sealing surface interface of the valve seat is clean and free of oil, grease and sealant. If necessary, the sealing surface can be coated with an oil film not heavier than kerosene. This requirement does not apply to valves that use lubricant as the primary seal (e.g., lubricated plug valves). 6.4.2 When bubbles are observed in the closing device (valve disc, valve seat and valve seat ring) covered with water, any leakage at the sealing surface interface of the valve seat, behind the valve seat ring or through the valve disc at the opening side of the valve shall be detected. If the detectable leakage rate is equal to the leakage rate given in Table 6, the valve manufacturer can prove and verify that the results generated by this procedure are equivalent to the requirements of this standard, And the device has passed the agreement acceptance between the buyer and the manufacturer.
When used for valves larger than DN 50 (NPS 2), the bubbler test can be accepted only with the consent of the Buyer. When a volumetric device (bubbler) is used to measure leakage, the test duration shall not commence until the flow through the test tube has been established and stabilized. The device shall be calibrated to produce a result equivalent to the units/minute listed in Table 6. The volumetric apparatus shall be calibrated using the same test fluid and temperature as the production test. On June 28, 2013, 16:13:35 MDT VALVE INSPECTION AND TESTING 11 6.4.3 When closing test gate valves, plug valves, and ball valves, a method for testing seat leakage should be used, This method shall use the test fluid to fill the body cavity and fully pressurize it to the test pressure between the seat and bonnet area, as applicable. This will ensure that valve seat leakage will not escape detection due to gradual filling of these volumes during the test.
