传统的MARX回路冲击发生器很难满足试验要求。如：德国Archen大学、慕尼黑大学、西安交通大学、清华大学均采用小型冲击发生器与陡化间隙相结合的方法研制的VFTO模拟发生器产生的波形波头时间均为20-50ns，幅值为几十千伏到1MV[15-16]。由于冲击电压发生器回路及高压引线电感会影响冲击源向陡化间隙提供能量的速度，导致陡化间隙击穿后输出电压的上升时间和主振荡频率难以达到标准要求的10ns时间要求。
